Musical angels at the organ and the harp

This fragment, now preserved at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, formed part of the central panel of the altarpiece made for Angelo Acciaiuoli and originally placed in the Certosa del Galluzzo, near Florence. The scene depicts musical angels playing an organ and a harp, as part of a pictorial complex of which other fragments survive in Dresden and Florentine private collections. The work bears witness to the high quality of the patronage associated with the Acciaiuoli family and the original decorative splendour of the Carthusian monastery.
